Fail

Dinner fail. I just ruined a tuna noodle casserole by not reading the directions carefully enough. I was distracted by a really bad mood and exhausted from holding a gregarious 10 month-old baby for over an hour while a Lisle police officer crawled around in the backseat of my Mini Cooper attempting to help me install a convertible carseat in the rear-facing position. The sad thing is that I have made this tuna noodle casserole twice before, and I didn't screw it up those other times.... This time, though, I accidentally put in 3 cups of pasta as measured before cooking it, as opposed to 3 cups of cooked pasta. Big difference. And I can't even start over because due to my knack for buying random ingredients that sit on the shelf unused until expiration, I have no extra cream of mushroom soup or tuna or noodles. And now Sonia has just woken up from a nap that I know she desperately needs after only 30 minutes. Gotta go get the kid....

  1. Awww... If I didn't think tuna noodle casserole sounded so nasty, I would totally feel sorry for you. But since I think you have probably spared the world from tuna ickiness, then I'm kind of proud...

  2. sounds like a good time to ORDER OUT! Sometimes I just really can't believe that we are expected to care for babies/toddlers AND cook. I mean, COME ON.

  3. Just yesterday I dumped a whole box of pasta into the water that I had *just* put in the pot.... meaning the water had not yet boiled. I didn't realize it until it was too late. (Yes, also distracted by a fussy baby.) This, of course, necessitated a phone call to my mother, who informed me that such a situation is not salvageable. A whole box of noodles and all that time went straight down the drain... Sigh...

  4. I had an "almost fail" this week.....I was making the filling for chicken pot pie, and I was trying to be fancy and use fresh ground pepper....well....the cap fell off and ALL of the peppercorns fell into the mix. I like pepper, but not WHOLE PEPPERCORNS. And I was certain that my children would never eat chicken pot pie again if they bit into one whole. So I spent the next 20 minutes fishing out peppercorns. Eventually I got tired of it and gave up. And prayed that nobody came across any in their pot pie that night! Success! Only one minor "this is too spicy mom!" Whew.
